Computerfix & Art

Life shouldn’t be all about money, money, money.

A wee bit of art can greatly add to ones quality of life.

Indeed I’ve found looking at a painting has a positive effect on one mood.

So at Computerfix we sometimes fix laptops/ipads/computers in return for some art.

The Art of Jean Ryan Hakizimana impressed me.  So I fixed his lapotp in return for some art.

Jean is based in Liddy Street, Limerick City and from Africa originally.

His site is www.jeanryan-art.com

Pic of Jean in his Art Studio & Gallery with the art I now hang proudly on my wall at home!

windows 8 and how to make your windows 8 look like windows 7

windows 8

well my opinion aside, very few customers speak well of it.

its not very user friendly or intuitive in the way that previous microsoft os’s were.

if you have windows 8 on your laptop you can keep it and at computerfix.ie we can make it so it looks like windows 7, with a windows 7 Start Button on the bottom left, just like it used to be.

yes I kid you not!

why change from xp to windows7 when xp is perfectly fine?

yeah, xp, for my money is the best of the lot.

it truly has stood the test of time.

it needs less ram memory, it works fast, very user friendly.

so why change?

well, lets say you buy a printer. it won’t have the the drivers for windows 7.

or another scenario. lets say your internet isnt working and you phone up tech support of your internet provier.

they ask you “what os is on your computer or laptop?”

you answer “xp!”

they answer “sorry we don’t support that anymore!”

desktop vs laptop vs netbook vs tablet

DESKTOP pc – hardware wise, won’t break much at all, the most reliable and a longer life span.  Also, it won’t it be stolen from your house by a burglar because obviously, they cant put it under their arm while they stroll down your street after breaking into your gaff.

So if you’re working for yourself say from at home or a small business premises, I’d recommend you buy a desktop before a laptop, netbook, tablet.

Laptop – good all rounder, for everyone from the student to business professional to pensioner.  Good for doing alot of work like typing large amounts of text, letters, assignments, surfing the net, watching a movie, playing\burning dvds, whatever.

But because its always in transit, it will be near foregone conclusion that some piece of its hardware will break , e.g. cracked screen, keyboard, hard disk, charger.

And funny enough, it nearly always happens after the 1 year warranty is up!

In Ireland, the standard laptop hardware warranty is 1 year. In Germany, its 3!

I often wondered about that.

Netbook – a netbook is a small laptop without a dvd player.  Good for typing SMALL amounts, surfing the net, very good for travel as its small and light,  but tend to be slow as they can only take a max of 2gb of ram memory.

Tablet – good for surfing the net, typing TINY amounts, quick email, taking photos, watching movies online, skyping.

Very good for travel as iits small and light.  Well smallish.  (I’d say Ryanair were disappointed about that one now. A nourishing bowl of  FREE steam in the staff “canteen” for the  rest fo the year there Michael)

Anyway, as I was saying, handy for the living room in front of the telly and sure flickin the screen, isnt it only great!

the health risks of using a laptop on your laptop and

I recommend using a laptop on a flat surface, a table. not on your lap on the couch or lying in bed.

why?

because using a laptop on your laptop is a bad, yes bad health risk!

the radiation from the laptop is bad for your “lower regions” shall we say, for men and women.

maybe that’s the reason why the manufacturer refer to laptops as NOTEBOOKS!

the other health risk of a laptop, as I mentioned in an earlier blog, is its keyboard.

a dirty keyboard has more germs than the inside of toilet.

so make sure to clean your laptop keyboard once a week.
